Each material behaves differently in use. Aluminium systems are often affected by running gear and alignment; uPVC systems by rollers, seals, and locking adjustments; timber doorsets by movement, fit, and hardware; and hybrid systems by the interaction between those materials. We assess the complete doorset so the repair matches the system.
These are precision systems with several connected moving parts. A door may feel like it has a lock problem when the real cause is a worn roller or a panel that has dropped. Our job is to understand the complete doorset, find the underlying fault, and restore it properly.
Seasonal changes in temperature, sunlight, and weather can make bifold door panels and frames expand and contract. That is why a temporary adjustment may not be enough; we look for the underlying cause and aim to leave you with a long-term repair.

This helps prevent unnecessary stress transferring to mechanical components, reduces the cycle of repeat repairs, and maximises long-term reliability and service life.
Assessment before repair
Your assessment is carried out by an experienced engineer, not a salesman. We complete an in-depth assessment of all aspects of your bifold doorset, talk you through the findings while we are on site, and provide the information in the report that accompanies the quotation for any repairs recommended. The £79 professional assessment visit lasts 45 to 60 minutes. No repair work is carried out during the assessment. The report and itemised quotation then follow by email, so you can understand the findings and options before deciding whether to proceed. If you choose to go ahead with the repair, the £79 assessment fee is credited against the repair cost, so you do not pay for the assessment in addition to the repair. The fee is also refunded if suitable parts are unavailable and we cannot provide a quote, or if the doorset is considered beyond economical repair.

Detailed bifold door services
A proper repair is not a quick fix applied to the most obvious symptom. We use the assessment to identify which parts are working together and which are not.
Assess hinge damage and wear where panels are folding, sitting, or moving incorrectly.
Trace heavy, noisy, or failing running gear and check whether suitable parts are available.
Address movement and alignment faults as part of the complete doorset, not as an isolated adjustment.
Investigate panels catching at the threshold or header, including track, frame, and panel position.
Assess doors that are difficult to close or lock before force creates further damage.
Repair or replace faulty security and closure hardware where the right part can be sourced.
Assess damaged or worn tracks, guides, magnets, catches, and related working hardware.
Trace draughts, rattles, and poor contact through seals, panel position, and closure.
Toe and heel is one important area checked when appropriate: manufacturer-specific glazing packers positioned at diagonally opposite corners of the glass help keep the sash square and level, supporting smooth movement and, where relevant, lock alignment.
A complete doorset overhaul is a repair option used when frame distortion is beyond the manufacturer’s tolerances and/or panel realignment cannot compensate for the degree of frame distortion. It can include structural repairs where the frame is distorted, but not every complete overhaul requires structural frame repair.
